Job Description

The Data Manager ensures the efficient management of databases and that data are available to users and are secure from unauthorised access.

(S)he uses specialised software to store and organise data. The role also documents standards and processes and works on data architecture, data reporting and other data related projects.

S(he) makes sure that data analysts can easily use the database to find the information they need and that the system performs as it should. The Data Manager will work with all the relevant stakeholders of the organisation in order to understand the company’s data needs and to plan the goals of the database.

Essential Qualifications and Work Experience:

  • A degree in IT or an equivalent amount of related technical coursework and work experience in a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a related field.
  • Experience with data reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating systems including command language and file editors.
  • Having business intelligence, data mining, reporting experience
  • Ability to perform database programming, optimization and tuning.
  • Solid experience with data backup, recovery, security, integrity and SQL
  • Experience with DBA case tools (frontend or backend) and third-party tools
  • Good knowledge of database design, documentation and coding
  • Knowledge of programming languages API
  • Knowledge & experience with automation

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Reporting
  • Generation of reports according to specifications
  • Data analysis, presenting actionable information
  • Data Visualisation
  • Design and implement a central database repository
  • Work on data extraction, transformation and loading into the data warehouse to meet changing reporting needs
  • Data mining to identify patterns and trends or make predictions and give recommendations to management
  • Identify user needs to create and administer databases
  • Establish the needs of users and monitor user access, privileges and security
  • Ensure data distribution to the right user, in appropriate format and in a timely manner
  • Establish rules and procedures so information can be shared securely and responsibly.
  • Consider both back-end organisation of data and front-end accessibility for end-users
  • Write database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata)
  • Carry out capacity planning
  • Commission and install new applications and customise existing applications in order to make them fit for purpose
  1. Database Maintenance
  • Ensure that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly
  • Install and test new versions of the database management system (DBMS)
  • Backup and restore data to prevent data loss
  • Develop, manage and test back-up and recovery plans, utilise high-speed transaction recovery techniques and backup data
  • Works on Database optimisation, Database security, Database clustering and high availability and Database monitoring
  • Works on automation of repetitive database maintenance tasks.
  • Database user accounts management
  • Ensure minimal database downtime, manage parameters and recommend index changes to provide fast query responses
  • Monitor database performance, implement changes and apply new patches and versions when required
  • Ensure that organisational data is secure
  • Ensure that the database operates efficiently and without error
  • Make and test modifications to the database structure when needed
  • Maintain the database and update permissions
  • Monitor performance and manage parameters in order to provide fast responses to front-end users
  • Map out the conceptual design for a planned database
  • Refine the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model
  • Further refining the physical design to meet system storage requirements
  • Merge old databases into new ones
  1. Project Management
  • Management and/or active involvement in data related projects

Package:

  • Salary scale: Rs70,000-Rs85,000
  • Transport Allowance: Rs10,000-Rs13,000
